Culture Keepers Toolkit to Defend Local Heritage Against Proposed Section 106 Overhaul

WASHINGTON, D.C., AUGUST 3, 2026 — The Culture Keepers Circle today published the Section 106 Advocacy Toolkit: Defending Local Heritage and Community Voices, a guide for communities preparing to speak on the federal rewrite of the rules that carry out Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The report warns that proposed regulatory changes threaten over 100,000 cultural sites across Indigenous, African-descendant, Latiné, Asian American, Pasifika, and territorial communities. Founder A. Prince Albert III emphasized that the publication aims "to broadcast the true impacts of this Section 106 overhaul far beyond the D.C. Beltway and directly into the local communities where these places actually stand". The toolkit equips grassroots advocates with actionable talking points to submit formal public comments.
